Business FAQ's

While clients have varying needs, during our pilot phase, projects can take one of several forms:

1. Milestone-based projects: Projects are scoped based on a number of hours required and an hourly rate. On average, expect:

  • Duration 8-16 weeks
  • Weekly Commitment: 10-20 hours
  • Process: Agile development methodology

2. Retainer-based projects: Clients pay a fixed amount for a set number of hours per week with a student. On average, expect:

  • Duration: 8-16 weeks
  • Weekly Commitment: 10-20 hours
  • Process: Client dependent

If the student is open to full-time hire, we would charge a 10% success fee for sourcing that talent for the client.

We encourage clients to scope down projects to a defined research or business question with a specific deliverable. However, during the POC process, our team is willing to assist clients with thinking through and scoping down the problem if such assistance is necessary.

If the scope changes during the engagement, we are flexible in changing methodologies and deliverables because we utilize the Agile Development process. From sprint to sprint, we can identify where circumstances will change and the necessary adjustments we will need to make.

We utilize the Agile Development methodology to complete projects for clients. Work will be prioritized using a “backlog” of key activities and will be delivered to the client by working in one-week to two-week “sprints” which result in a “demo” to show the work completed and gather any feedback moving into the next sprint. An important feature of these constructs is the transparency to the entire project team. At any point, team members can review these living documents and understand the true, real-time status of the project.

Propheto is a registered C corporation through which we independently contract with our student data scientists. Therefore, clients pay Propheto directly while we distribute funds to the corresponding student data scientists.

The technical system requirements will vary based on the specific needs of each client’s project. For most engagements, the client is not required to provide any additional software, merely access to the data that they would like Propheto to analyze. We leverage sophisticated open-source software tools in secure environments so that our clients can rest assured their data is safe and that there are no hidden fees. If a customer prefers to manage the data themselves, we can connect into their existing infrastructure to complete our analysis in that environment.

For any client, Propheto is legally a contractor. Therefore, if a student chooses to work through Propheto, they are then a subcontractor working for a client via Propheto. This requires a student to be an independent contractor of Propheto with which they sign an Independent Services Contract Agreement, W9 form for the IRS, and a Mutual Nondisclosure Agreement (MNDA).

All work is conducted remotely.

Students mostly have the flexibility to work on their own schedules as long as they deliver the desired work product in a timely fashion. However, expect to be available for check-in calls at times agreed upon by you and the client.

Once you have filled out the intake form in “Get Started”, we will begin circulating your profile (with name and contact info redacted to preserve your privacy) with potential clients. Once a client submits a project proposal, we will reach out to you to see if you’re interested based on the terms, payment, etc. If you reply that you are, we will share your profile with the client for further review. If the client shows interest, the Propheto team will make the final review to see if you are a good fit for the project based on skills and background.

On the Propheto site Visit the “Get Started” drop down above and select “Students”. On that page you’ll find an intake form in which you will fill in your academic background, experience, technical expertise, and availability. The more information you share, the more marketable you will be! Once you submit that form, you’ll be in our database and be eligible to receive emails about potential projects.
